Steffi Stone, age 86, passed away peacefully in Libertyville, Illinois,
on Sunday, December 3, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones.
Steffi was born to Erich and Hertha Miodownik in Berlin, Germany,
on December 17, 1930. During World War II she escaped from the Holocaust
with her mother and sister by train set for Belgium where they boarded a cargo ship
bound for Brazil where Steffi, her mother and sister were reunited with their father after
he was released from a Nazi Concentration Camp. Steffi and her family entered the U.S.
as war refugees by order of President Roosevelt. She became a U.S. citizen in 1946.
Steffi graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1953,
while there she met her beloved husband Elmer Stone.
They married in 1954 and together raised four sons.
While raising her family Steffi was employed at Waukegan Public Schools
for many years where she did long term subbing,
worked in the WEEP program and as a Special Education Paraprofessional.
Steffi was a member of AAUW, Waukegan Community Concert,
and Friends of the Library at Waukegan Public Library where she
volunteered many hours helping out in the children's library.
After retiring she and her husband enjoyed traveling the U.S.
and foreign countries. Steffi enjoyed spending time with her family
especially her grandchildren. She spent many hours taking them
to the local parks to feed the ducks, baked cookies, making crafts
and playing games. Steffi also enjoyed spending time at the
family cabin in Amberg, Wisconsin. Steffi is survived by her three sons,
Kevin (Susan) Stone, Gregory (Angie) Stone, Robert (Jenny) Stone and
daughter-in-law, Debbie (Bill) Stone-Campbell. Seven grandchildren;
Nicholas Stone, Taylor (Trevor) Rowland, Erik Stone, Melissa Stone,
Connor Stone, Gina Stone and Mackenzie Stone.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Stone,
son, David Stone, great-grandson, Carson Campbell Rowland and sister,
Margot Ashworth. A celebration of life will be held at Marsh Funeral Home,
305 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, Saturday December 16, 9:00AM-1:00PM.
Service will be held at 1:00 PM interment immediate following at Warren Cemetery.
