Mr. Stephen J. "Steve" Pettner, Sr., 79, of 69 Mason Dixon Rd., State Line, PA, and formerly of Freedom, PA, passed away Friday morning, October 4, 2013, in his home. Born January 8, 1934 in Conway, PA, he was the son of the late Stephen Henry and Anna Catherine (Pepsic) Pettner. He and his wife of over 59 years, Marilyn Louise (Stanfield) Pettner, were married on August 23, 1954 in Baden, PA. They have lived at their present residence since 1963. Mr. Pettner was a machinist at Mack Truck in Hagerstown, MD. He retired in 1995 after more than 30 years of service with the company. He was a member of Local UAW #171 and enjoyed sports, fishing, and wrestling. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children: Stephen Pettner, Jr. and his wife, Melissa of Hagerstown, James Pettner, Sr. of Chambersburg, Gary Pettner and his wife, Katrina of Chambersburg, Karen Pettner of State Line, Donald Pettner and his wife, Lori of Hagerstown, and Randy Pettner and his wife, Leigh of Hagerstown; his grandson whom he raised, James Pettner, Jr. of State Line; 14 grandchildren; 7 step –grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 5 step- great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren are on the way; 1 sister; 2 brothers; his special neighbor, Barry Grosh of State Line; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington Street, Greencastle, with Pastor Denny Newcomer officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday evening, and one hour prior to the service, Tuesday morning, in the funeral home.
