Stephen R. Symonds, 63, of Keene, died at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH on Thursday, January 18, 2018 with his loving family and close friends by his side following a brief illness.
He was born in Keene, NH on November 7, 1954 the son of Ralph "Hugger" Symonds and Anna (DiLuzio) Symonds.

He was a lifelong resident of Keene, attended Keene Schools and was a 1972 graduate of Keene High School. While attending high school he played multi-sports including football, baseball, and wrestling.
He was employed as a facilities engineer for the Polyonics Company in Westmoreland, NH. Prior to his employment at Polyonics he was employed by the former Schleicher and Schuell Company for thirty-one years.

Throughout his life Steve loved spending time with his family and friends, playing on the men's softball league, fishing, golfing, and vacationing at York Beach every summer. He was especially proud when watching Kristy play softball and Stephen play hockey. Later in life he loved to watch his granddaughter, Avajean, dance at MoCo Arts and perform in the Keene Lions Club shows as well as playing lacrosse and softball. Steve loved to work around his house, perfecting his yard and garden and chatting away with neighbors. Being from a big Italian family, of which he was very proud, he always enjoyed cooking big meals for his family. Steve dedicated his life to his wife Cindy, bringing up the family together, going on cruises, special trips to Samoset, York Beach, Aruba and Florida were some of his favorite times. Steve was a charter member and officer of the Sons of the American Legion in Keene. He was an avid Boston Sports fan supporting all of the Boston teams.

Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Cynthia S. (Smyth) Symonds of Keene; his beloved family, his daughter Kristy S. Symonds, his son Stephen R. Symonds, Jr. and his granddaughter Avajean Anna Symonds, all of Keene; his brother Randy Symonds and his wife Cathy of Hudson, FL; his mother-in-law Barbara (Blair) Smyth of Keene; two sister-in-laws; Kim Watterson and her husband Brian of Belmont and Kathy Tommila and her husband Cory of Swanzey, NH: a brother-in-law Gordon Smyth of Swanzey. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and a special aunt, Theresa DiLuzio with whom he shared a special bond.

He was predeceased by his parents at a young age and his grandparents Anna and Rocco DiLuzio who played a very special part in his life.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Bernard's Church, 185 Main Street, Keene on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Steven M. Kucharski, Associate Pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will be private at a later date. Family and friends are invited to call at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH on Wednesday, January 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name in honor of his granddaughter, Avajean, to MoCo Arts, 76 Railroad Street, Keene, NH 03431.
