Stewart Tyrrell Wood, age 85, of Denison, TX passed in the privacy of his home with his loving family at his side on
Sunday, March 26, 2017. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 4 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Bratcher Funeral Home. The
funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 800 W. Woodard, Denison.
He was born on November 25, 1931 to Evans Biard Wood and Dorothy Tyrrell on a train outside Bakersfield, CA while
traveling to Texas to make their home. He grew up in Denison where he attended school, graduating from Denison High
School in 1949.
He married Realy Ann Lee of Denison in September 1950 to whom five children were born. The marriage ended in
divorce. He subsequently married Helen Jeanne Rainwater on May 30, 1976. Helen preceded him in death on January 1,
He held many accomplishments in his life. He was a Master Electrician and owned his business, Texoma Electric
Company, since 1960. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He served in the Texas National Guard. He was a volunteer
with Meals On Wheels. He did volunteer electrical work for Habitat For Humanity.
As a young man, he dedicated his life to service through the church, and stayed true to that dedication, serving in every
facet of the church. He was bestowed the honor of Elder Emeritus on March 25, 2012. He volunteered his time and
expertise as a Master Electrician to his church's various statewide building projects.
He donated his electrical skills and expertise for the church Disciples Men mission projects over the past 21 years, as
well as for the Athens Church Camp and many other entities in the North Texas area. Additionally, he served as a Lay
Minister for the area when called upon.
He is survived by five children and two step-children: Dorothy Wood and husband Kim Darden of San Diego CA; Lee Ann
Starnes and husband Stacy of Sadler, TX; Alice Lyde and husband Bryan of Pottsboro, TX; William Richard Wood IV of
Denison; and Lisa Wood and husband Arnold Schafer of Pottsboro, TX; Daniel Rainwater and wife Chere' of Houston, TX;
and Dr. David Rainwater and wife Roxanne of Friendswood, TX; Nine grandchildren - Ashley Wood Llano, Christie
Starnes Coffey, Melissa Starnes, Brian Wood, Mandy Osborne, Nikki Wood, Jacob Wood, Christopher Robinson, and
Jennifer Robinson; eight step-grandchildren - John David Rainwater, Jimmy Bishop, Jana Cox, Ellen Rainwater, Gordon
Rainwater, Patrick Rainwater, JB Niday, and Noah Niday; fifteen great grandchildren - Acacia Taylor, Yasmin Llano, Elias
Llano, Gavin Starnes, Camryn Jamison, Cannon Jamison, Garrett Montgomery, Kaylee Pohl, Kailyn Wood, Bradley Wood,
Sadie Parnell, Nathan Parnell, Savannah Stone, Andrew Cunliffe, Delany Robinson; and five step-great grandchildren -
Kyla, Axel, Abel, Abby, and Blair Niday.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and one brother, William Richard Wood III.
Pallbearers are Brad Blankenship, Robert Brady, David Fletcher, David Hawley, Paul Henning, and Mike Woody.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Clyde Kendall, and Marvin Vincent.
Memorial donations may be made in Stewart's name to the Disciples Men Fellowship - Mission Projects in care of the
First Christian Church, 800 W. Woodard St., Denison, TX 75020.
