Susan Lorraine Fortune Long, 58, of Richmond, VA, passed away on Monday night, November 20, 2017 at Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond.

Susan was born January 9, 1959 in Raleigh, NC to Dennis Lee Fortune, Sr. and Dorothy "Dot" Wright Fortune. She was raised in Saint Michael Episcopal Church, attended public school in Raleigh, NC and graduated from Guilford College, Greensboro, NC. Following college graduation, she went to work for Overnite Transportation in Charlotte, NC, later transferring to Richmond, VA. Following over 30 years of service with Overnite/UPS Freight in Richmond, she retired in the spring of this year.

Her son Zack was her pride, joy and greatest accomplishment. She loved serving as a "Band Mom" through his high school years and was so very proud when he received his degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She loved to read, was very interested in family history, enjoyed attending the annual Labor Day weekend Fortune Family Reunion and always enjoyed trips to the beach with the family for summer vacations.

Susan was a loving mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, niece, aunt and friend. She is survived by her son, Zachariah "Zack" Jillani of Richmond; mother, Dorothy "Dot" Fortune of Southern Pines; brother, sister-in-law and nephew, Dennis, Diann and Nicholas Fortune of Southern Pines; uncle and aunt, Doug and Anne Wright of Jamestown, NC and many cousins on the Fortune side of her family. She will be missed by all of her loved ones and friends.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Lee Fortune, Sr.; grandparents, Roma and Lois Fortune and Robert and Grace Wright; uncle and aunt, Jack and Erma Fortune; and infant niece, Sarah Ann Fortune.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Penick Village, 401 East Rhode Island Avenue, Southern Pines, NC in the North Building Library. On Sunday, December 3, 2017, a gathering of friends and family will be held in the Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd Midlothian, VA from 2-4pm.
