Suzanne Hessling Garrett, 68, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 in her home in Chandler, North Carolina.
She was predeceased by her mother Mary Meeley Hessling and father Joseph Barrett Hessling, and her brother, William Hessling. She is survived by her husband; George Lewis Garrett, Jr. of Chandler, North Carolina, her children; Linda Garrett Cole (Mark) and Timothy Lewis Garrett (Kristen) and her brother; Joseph Barrett Hessling, II (Mary Lou) of Easton, Pennsylvania and Peter Anthony Hessling of Tampa, Florida. She was the grandmother of 4 children.
She was born in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and was raised in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. She graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Carbondale and was an active Registered Nurse for a few years. When her two children were in school, she entered and graduated from the Mary Baldwin Adult Education Program and followed with a Masters of Science in Education from James Madison University. She worked as a coordinator of several educational grant programs followed by employment by Blue Ridge Community College in student Services.
Suzanne was active in the Staunton community by participating in the Staunton Jaycettes, Staunton Junior Women's Club and the Staunton Women's Club. She enjoyed traveling and she and her husband traveled the Intracostal Waterway boat to the Florida Keys for 6 years following their retirement. They then moved on to cruise ships for their other travels.
A private interment will be held for the family at Augusta Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday June 13, 2015 at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made in Suzanne's honor to the American Cancer Society or a local hospice of your choice.
