Born in Mobile, AL on August 10, 1948, came to rest October 20, 2017. Syd is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Pat, 2 Daughters Jenny Nesser (and Dennis) of Gonzales, TX, Julie Armistead of Harker Heights, TX, 5 Grandchildren: Garon Armistead (and Tara), Dennis Nesser III (and Gretchen), Dalton and Wyatt Couch, Amie Armistead, 2 Great Grandchildren: Garrett and Gavin Armistead, adopted daughter Margie Ramthum (and Tracy), 4 adopted grandchildren AnnaMarie (and Jack), Jesse, Ronnie, and Billy Ramthum. He was preceded in death by his parents Sydney Earle Armistead Jr in 1990, and Cecyl Armistead-Delleney in 2016.
Syd served in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned the Bronze Star along with other citations. He later became an elementary school teacher at Killeen ISD. He taught 3rd grade at Fowler Elementary, Pre-K and Kindergarten at East Ward Elementary, and Pre-K at Pershing Park until he retired in 1997. He was the 1st male Kindergarten teacher in Killeen ISD and often said "It was the world of knees and nostrils. The kids stood up to his knees and looked up his nostrils." Prior to his illness, Syd, was an active, charter member, of Trinity Baptist Church in Harker Heights, a member of several card stamping groups in Killeen and Harker Heights, a member of Killeen Schools Retirees Association, and served as an officer in ATPE at local and district levels. He also loved to decorate his house and church.

Burial will be at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery Thursday, October 26, 2:00.

Memorial Service will be held October 29, 2017, 2:00at Trinity Baptist Church in Harker Heights.
