Sylvia J. Rotherforth, 80, of Rocky Hill, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Alzheimer's Resource Center in Southington, CT. Born December 6, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to Max and Mary (Smith) Bartholomew, she was the beloved wife of William R. Rotherforth. Sylvia was a woman of strong faith, devoted to her church, a world traveler including multiple trips to Israel, Oberammergau Germany to see the Passion play, Italy, London, and a group trip to Honduras to see schools that were being built with donations from a charity she supported.

Sylvia was a diehard UCONN Women's Basketball, Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Red Sox fan; a lifelong Girl Scout and Girl Scout Leader; a cancer survivor, and an avid Scrabble player. We are pretty sure a rousing Scrabble match is happening right now in Heaven between Sylvia and her lifelong friends Kay and Janet.

A self-described perpetual student, she received her Associates degree from Manchester Community College, her Bachelor's degree from Central Connecticut State University, and ultimately earned her Master's from St Joseph's College. Prior to retirement she had worked many years as a Geriatric Social Worker for the Town of West Hartford.

In addition to her husband, Sylvia is survived by her children Cynthia and her husband Jose Aponte of New Britain, Robin Rotherforth of Rocky Hill, Scott Rotherforth of Glastonbury; grandson Thomas Shew and his fiancée Elizabeth Gilman of Colchester; great-grandchildren Mia, Tucker and Carter; Nephew Rick Bartholomew and his wife Ashly of Milford; Niece Bonnie Bartholomew of Gettysburg, PA; a brother-in-law Walter Rotherforth of Bloomfield; and countless friends and extended family members.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Dick Bartholomew and his wife Barbara, and a grandson Kenneth Shew, Jr.
