Sylvia Ernestine Squitier Lentjes passed away peacefully on September 4, 2017. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 26, 1925. She graduated from University of Pittsburgh, was an operatic singer, and was the first woman in her family to go to college. She married Guenter Gharhardt Paul Lentjes in 1949, and they were married for 59 years until his death in 2009. They raised a family in Asheville, NC before eventually settling in Orlando, Florida in 2001. Sylvia always loved the outdoors and was very active. She ran in the Peachtree Road Race in her 50’s, she loved golf and played almost daily, and she always had binoculars nearby to watch her birds. She also loved to needlepoint and made many beautiful pieces for her family and friends. Sylvia was a teacher for many years, first starting with teaching art, moved on to teaching adult basic education and continued substituting well in to her 70’s. Most importantly, however, Sylvia had a tremendous love for her family and was deeply religious with a strong faith. She had seven grandchildren, and each grandchild had one day of the week devoted to her prayers. Two great grandchildren have now been added to her family. Sylvia’s three children - Linda Barnhill (David), Laura Tyor (William), and David Lentjes will miss her. She will always live in the hearts of all of her family.
