Takyia Jedon Skinner was born May 25, 1978 in New Haven, CT to Margaret Gomez-Pritchett and David T. Skinner. Her early childhood years were spent growing up in Tolland, Connecticut where she attended school and made many lifelong friends. In 1996 Takyia moved to New Haven where she continued her education, obtaining her General Education Diploma and Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) credentials from ITT Technical School in 1998. Shortly thereafter, Takyia established and operated "Kyia's Kiddie Korner", a home based program where she provided licensed day care services to over 12 children, aged 6 weeks to 8 years old. Additionally, she provided afterschool care. Takyia was employed as a CNA at Whitney Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Hamden, CT and at the APT Foundation – CMU Department as a Phlebotomist. Her work career was briefly interrupted with the birth of her only child Nyasia Anitra Elmore, to whom she was devoted. Recently Takyia returned to work at the APT Foundation. On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, Takyia transitioned from this earthly world to her heavenly home. She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter Nyasia Anitra Elmore; her companion of many years and father to her daughter, David Elmore; her mother Margaret Gomez-Pritchett of Shorter, AL,; her father, David T. Skinner of Tolland, CT; stepfather Oria Pritchett of Shorter, AL; grandfather Alfred 'Ollie' Gomez; 5 nephews Jaevon Gomez of Atlanta, GA; Ontae Blow of Bridgeport, CT, Jimme Walker of Greensboro, NC, Daquan Gomez of West Haven, CT and Markequis Gomez of New Haven, CT; best friend Sherrie Florentino-Sharrette, and a host of friends and family. She was predeceased by her brother Jerome Gomez.
