Theresa M. Diters, 90, a lifelong resident of New Britain, passed away on Wednesday, July 12th. She was born on December 8th, 1926 to the late Mary and Stanley Grunwald. Terri was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was a wonderful listener wit a true spirit of nurturing that graced all who came to know her. Theresa married the love of her life, Richard in 1948 and for the next 66 years they had a marriage made in heaven. She was a charger member of St. Jerome Church. "Breathtakers", the Hospital for Special Care's pulmonary support group was named by her. Terri traveled extensively around the world but was proudest of her city of New Britain and her Polish heritage. She passed down her passion for cooking and baking with generations of family, friends and grandchildren. Theresa was a role model of sacrificial love, faithfulness and always putting family first. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard. She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Cindy and Jim Scanlon of Centerville, MA Laura and Joe Borrelli of Bristol, CT; Six grandchildren: Beth Nicole Scanlon, Nicole Gavagni and spouse Michael Gavagni, Jaclyn Borrelli and Dominic Borrelli and two great grandchildren: Alex and Brooke Scanlon and many beloved nieces, nephews and godchildren. The family would like to thank the Hartford Healthcare Hospice team and the many cheerful home health aides that quickly became friends. A special note of gratitude goes to Donuta and Jola for their loving care.

Calling hours will be held at New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain on Thursday, July 20, from 5-7pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, July 21, at 10 am at St. Jerome Church, 1010 Slater Road, New Britain and friends will gather at 9am at the funeral home. A burial service will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, 1309 Stanley St. New Britain.
