Theresa “Terry” M. (Gray) Zielinski, of Vernon, formerly of Ellington, beloved wife of the late Stanley Zielinski, passed away peacefully at Rockville Hospital on Friday, July 7th, after a period of declining health. Terry was born in Providence, RI on September 29, 1928, daughter of the late James Joseph Gray and Esther Hope (Galvin) Gray. She is survived by her children: Stephen and Sandra Zielinski of South Windsor, Diane Brow of Simsbury; Peter and Diane Zielinski of Van Alstyne, TX, and Paul and Elaine Zielinski of Shelton, CT; her grandchildren: Jessica and Steve Scapicchio, Rebecca and Monica Zielinski; Christopher Brow; Leslie Ann, Matthew, David, and Claire Zielinski; her brother Elmer Gray of Providence, RI; and her sisters Jean Ingold of WA, and Marie Olivera of CA. She also leaves close friends Madlyn and Wilbur Hany; Wil and Shirley Frederich; Carolyn Kolwicz; and Bev Lessard. Besides her husband Stanley, Terry was predeceased by her son Matthew, an infant daughter Nancy Ann, and three brothers, Bobby, James and Owen Gray. When her children were grown, Terry returned to school and earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration at the age of 60. She was elected a member of the Ellington Board of Selectmen from 1984-1986. She also ran for the Democratic nomination for the Connecticut State Legislature. She was employed by the State of CT as a fiscal administration officer for the Department of Income Maintenance from 1984 until her retirement in 1994. Terry was an intelligent, articulate, lively, sociable, well-educated, well-dressed, principled woman. She loved to shop, travel, play bridge, play Jeopardy and Scrabble, sing, and she loved to laugh. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Mom, Grandma ~ you will be missed. Friends can meet Wednesday, July 12, 10:00 AM at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Rt. 83), Vernon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 AM at St. Luke’s Church, 141 Maple Street, Ellington. Burial will follow in Ellington Center Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, July 11, from 7-9 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the 2nd Lt. Matthew J.
