Therese Grace Bailey, 85, passed away on March 30th, 2017 at the Fairview in Groton. She was born in Starksboro, Vermont in March of 1932. At the age of 13, her family moved to New London. Therese attended St. Mary's and Williams Memorial Institute, Class of 1951. She worked at Lawrence & Memorial until 1962 when she began work at Pfizer as a switchboard operator. Therese eventually became Pfizer's first female security guard. After retiring Pfizer, she spent 9 years assisting the elderly at St. Jude Commons in Norwich. Always putting others first, Therese spent her last working years as a Hospice volunteer. Therese is survived by her children, Mark Briggs and daughter-in-law Deirdre of Niantic, Rachel D'Amelia of Norwich, and Tammy Gaughan of Las Vegas, grandchildren Briana and Ian D'Amelia, Joseph D. Gaughan IV, and Melissa and Ryan Briggs. There is one great-grandchild Ava Gaughan, and a brother John M. Jennings of New London. Step-children are Daniel and John Bailey. Therese is predeceased by her parents Eva and Clifton Jennings, siblings Mary (Marlyn) Karlson, and George Jennings. Therese was also predeceased by her grandson, Joseph Daniel Gaughan III. Her husbands were Paul W. Briggs, who passed in 1955, Henry Grockowski, who passed 1981, and Morgan F. Bailey who passed in 2004. A Liturgy of The Word will be conducted at St. John's Church, 22 Maple Ave, in Uncasville on Thursday, April 13th at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
