Thomas Edward Kosin passed away September 8, 2017 after complications from his second open heart surgery. Tom was born October 15, 1946 in Phoenix, Arizona. He passed away peacefully at the hospital surrounded by family and friends. He grew up in Phoenix and became a Phoenix police officer badge #1528, a job that fit his skills and personality perfectly. He married his true love Frances Maria Ales, his high school sweetheart. They had two children, Teresa and Nich who became the center of their lives. Tom adjusted his work schedule and social life to make it to every track, cross country, and swim meet that his kids participated in. He loved the outdoors with his family, taking his wife and kids to Payson to help build cabins with his brothers. He enjoyed family vacations traveling to Hong Kong, Scotland, and Israel. His career with the Phoenix Police Department began July 23, 1967. He started as a street officer and worked his way up to Sergeant and then Detective Sergeant. His career included heading the Repeat Offender Program or ROP, and he also received many awards including the Medal of Life Saving, for rescuing children from a burning building. He retired July 30, 1999 from Phoenix PD and began his own businesses in woodworking and stained glass, winning many awards and making his customers very happy with his beautiful pieces. Tom is survived by his wife Frances, daughter Teresa (Scott) Betzer, son Nich Kosin, grandson Tyler Dahmen, granddaughter Abigail Betzer, and his brother Clifford (Beverly) Kosin. Services will be at Surprise Funeral Care on Friday September 15, at 11 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the 100 club.
