Thomas Francis Gotimer, 92 of Phoenicia died Wednesday October 19, 2016 at the Golden Hill Nursing Home after a brief stay. He was born November 9, 1923 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn son of the late George and Marion McGinnis Gotimer. He was a graduate of St. John's Prep, Class of '43. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving with the Seabees of Construction Battalion 119 in the Pacific where he was awarded the American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Tom worked for many years with the New York Racing Assn. as head of mutual operations. He had been an area resident since 1978, having previously resided in Greenwich Village, New York City. He was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Parish and choir.
Surviving are his brother George T. Gotimer, Jr. of Margaretville, eight devoted nieces and nephews and his Phoenicia care-giving friends including Tom & Louise, and Wayne & Rosalia. He was predeceased by his siblings: Sr. Maryeugene Gotimer SC, Jeanne P. Buchanan, Marion E. Dupper, Rev. Msgr. James E. Gotimer, and his partner of forty-nine years Orville L. DeStatte.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10am at the St. Francis de Sales Parish. Burial will be at the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery.
