Thomas Sidney O'Connor, Jr.

Thomas Sidney O'Connor, Jr. died Friday, April 11 in New Orleans. Dr. O'Connor was a widely respected Professor of Marketing and Management at the University of New Orleans since 1970, where he was held in high esteem by students and colleagues alike. A native of Mobile, Alabama, he was a graduate of McGill Institute in Mobile, where he was President of the McGill-Toolen Bands and a National Merit Finalist. He received a B.S. in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, a M.B.A from Mississippi State University, and a Ph.D. in Marketing and Quantitative Methods from the University of Alabama, where he was a National Defense Education Act fellow and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma honorary. Dr. O'Connor taught at the UNO-Munich program and the UNO executive MBA programs in Jamaica and New Orleans. He was widely published in professional journals including the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Marketing in the Nonprofit and Public Sectors, Journal of Business Forecasting, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science and numerous others. In 2013, Dr. O'Connor received the year's "Best Book" award from the International Association for Management of Technology. He received the award in Porto Alegre, Brazil, for his book Intellectual Property in the Managerial Portfolio: Its Creation, Development, and Protection. He is survived Valerie Queyrouze O'Connor, his wife of 41 years; sons Brian Patrick O'Connor of New Orleans and Terrence Michael O'Connor of Atlanta; and sister Suzanne Marie O'Connor of Huntsville, Alabama. He was predeceased by his parents Sarah Plauché O'Connor and Thomas Sidney O'Connor, Sr. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Wednesday April 16 at 10am at St. Dominic Church, 775 Harrison Ave., New Orleans, LA. A visitation will be held at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday April 15 from 6pm until 8pm. Burial will be private at a later date.
