Timothy Vincent Minter, 65, of Amherst, passed away on January 5, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Born August 6, 1952 in Teneck, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Horatio Daniel Minter Sr. and Louise Faulkner Minter. He was also preceded in death by his brother, H. Daniel Minter Jr. Tim is survived by his wife Helen Martin Minter and his four children, James Silas Minter (Stacy) of Forest, Jacob Gray Minter (Erin) of Amherst, Nichole Minter Dowdy (Chris) also of Amherst, Maureen Minter Puckett (James) of Gladys. Also surviving are his four sisters, Patricia M. White (Ronald Lee) of Lynchburg, Rosemary Minter of Martinsville, Ellen M. Boone (Mike) also of Martinsville, and Louise M. Dudley (Rob) of Bedford. Tim (Poppa) also leaves to cherish his memory, his five grandchildren, Grayson and Ellee Dowdy of Amherst, Leah and Daniel Minter also of Amherst, Cole and expected 6th grandchild, Baby Boy Puckett of Gladys.
Tim was a lifetime businessman, owning Minter Siding and Window Company, starting with his father opening the business in 1953 as Fairview Hardware. Tim was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and was a loyal and faithful member of the Knights of Columbus, beginning at the age of 18. His dedication led him to serve as Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, and District Deputy. He proudly volunteered his time in the Knights of Columbus through countless hours serving his community.
His family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Kevin Patel and staff of Lynchburg Oncology as well as Centra Hospice, especially Jewel and Tina, for their expert care of Tim during his courageous battle with cancer.
Family night will be held at Whitten Monelison Chapel, Monday, January 8, 2018 from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Amherst, where the family will receive friends following the service. There will be a private burial on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Minter Family Cemetery in Henry County.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lymphoma Foundation of America.
