Tommy Lee Taylor, 66, of Valley Ranch/Irving, Texas, went home to be with the Lord February 3rd 2017, after 18 years of brave challenges with a traumatic brain injury.

Tom was born on January 3rd, 1951 in Fairfield, Illinois. He graduated from Grayville Community High School in Grayville Illinois, in 1969, where he was a member of the Beta Club and Boy Scouts. Tom graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1973 with a BS degree in Civil Engineering Technology.

In the Southern Illinois area, Tom practiced civil engineering with firms Moldovan & Associates, Inc. and Watwood & Heavener, Inc.; ten years in Florida with Kimley-Horn & Associates, Inc. in Orlando, Florida, and AIM Engineering and Surveyors, Inc. in Ft. Myers, Florida. Moving to Dallas, Texas, he became a Vice President with Bridgefarmer & Associates. Tom loved roadway design and construction. He liked to see “Dirt at Work”. His 22 years as a Professional Engineer in Illinois, Florida, and Texas brought him much gratification. Tom was a Registered Land Surveyor in Illinois and Florida.

Professional affiliations included The American Society of Civil Engineers and Illinois Professional Engineer Association. Tom’s contributions to civic organization included President of Lions Club, Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, and Elk Club.

Tom was previous a member of Orlando First Baptist Church and Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, before becoming a member of Valley Ranch Baptist Church in Coppell, Texas. Tom enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid quail hunter, golfer, fisherman and sporting clays enthusiast. He enjoyed watching Texas, Ranger baseball, Dallas Cowboys, and NASCAR.

Tom is survived by: the love of his life, A.B. Taylor of Valley Ranch/Irving, Texas; sister, Glenda Sue Onyett of Gulfport, Mississippi; brother, Robert Taylor of Grayville, Illinois; three wonderful children: Brent and wife Kendra Taylor of Salem, Illinois; Sara and husband Mike Ulrey of Salem, Illinois; and Matt Taylor of Kell, Illinois. He also leaves behind four precious grandchildren: Charlee Taylor, Jaq Taylor, Seth Ulrey and Emma Ulrey.

Tom’s heart’s desire for his children was a long-lasting marriage and success for their future as well as education and success for his grandchildren. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Herbert Taylor and Marie Bain Taylor of Grayville, Illinois.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6th, 2017 at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, Coppell, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 7th, 2017, in the chapel at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Parsley officiating. Graveside services will follow at Rolling Oaks Cemetery with Rev. Lan Leavell and Rev. J.B. Collingsworth officiating.
