Springfield, IL-Ulysses "Frenchy" Duhon, 92, passed away at 5:45 pm, Sun, Dec. 31, 2017 at Heritage Health in Carlinville, IL.
He was born in Kaplan, LA, January 27, 1925 the son of Jean A. and Aziana (Trahan) Duhon. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. He married Wilma Stevens and she preceded him in death in 1982. He then married Clelie Meaux and she preceded him in death in 2017. He was also preceded in death by a son, Gerald, and two sisters.
Ulysses worked as a truck and equipment painter for Hayes Freight Company before becoming a Truck Inspector with Schaffer Truck Service. He then joined Allis Chalmers (now Fiat-Allis) where he became an accomplished welder retiring in 1984. After retirement, Ulysses would be found tinkering and putzing around his yard, gardening and working on cars and various other projects. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, listening or watching every game during the season. His daughters fondly recall him saving money to take them to see a game at Busch Stadium.
He is survived by his daughters: Cheryl Manuele of Dawson, IL, Michele (Luigi) Pianezza, Lori Kliment, and Audra Ritter all of Springfield, IL. He has 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Cremation Rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory.
A graveside ceremony will be on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honor's conducted by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association 2309 W White Oaks Dr Suite E, Springfield, IL 62704.
