Born August 5, 1929 in Brainerd, MN to Oscar and Ella (Clabo) Eggerud., Vern passed peacefully in his sleep next to his wife of almost 65 years, Maxine Eggerud on February 18, 2015. He grew up in the Brainerd area, attended school there and the later entered the US Army in 1952 and was discharged in 1954 as a Corporal. Vern married the love of his life, Maxine Ann Laing on June 2, 1950. They raised four beautiful children Ann, Cindy, Sandra and Vern at their home in Sumner area. His family was most important to him. He helped all of his children get property and built their homes to start their families so they could be raise their children in the same area. Vern had his own construction business for 45 years. He loved being a carpenter and was known for his amazing skills and hard work ethics. He was a very humble man that took great pride in his work building custom homes mainly in western Washington. After his children moved into their homes and started raising their own families, Vern and Maxine remained in the same area for many years spending Holidays and Birthdays with his children and grandchildren. In 1993, he built a home in Lincoln, for him and his wife to retire in. There he was the water manager at Lincoln for the Lake Roosevelt water system for seventeen years until he finally decided to fully retire at the age of 83. Then still, he continued to live a very busy life always working on something, tinkering on many projects around the home, and helping some neighbors with their projects too. His grandchildren cherish many memories of being pulled in the snow on the toboggan w the tractor, four-wheeler rides, boating, fishing, hunting and much more. He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping, horseback riding, motorcycles, traveling, collecting antiques and gardening, especially his potatoes. He was known for his sense of humor, his wisdom, and his endless entertaining stories of his full, long lived life of 85 years.
Vern was a member of the Army National Guard, Carpenters Union and the V.F.W.
