Vernon Scott, 83, of Aurora died Friday at his home. Born in Willimina to Silas and Nancy "Emily" (Tucker) Scott, Vernon grew up in the Scravel Hill area and graduated from Albany Union High School in 1948. He entered the US Army, and after his discharge began a career in road and paving construction as an operating engineer and member of the operating engineers union, a career that spanned 35 years. He married Veta (Evans) on December 31, 1956 in Corvallis. Vernon was gifted in all phases of construction, and built his own home in Aurora where he and Veta lived for over 50 years. He was an avid rockhound and loved to hunt and fish. Survivors include his wife Veta of Aurora; daughter Jean Van Nostrand of San Ramon, CA; sons Dean and Donald Scott of Aurora, and Kurt Scott of Salem; step sons Marvin Adair of Texas and James Adair of Idaho; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Vernon was preceded in death by brothers Clarence and Arthur; sister Evelyn Jones; and one great grandchild. A memorial service will be at 10am Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home, followed by graveside committal services with military honors at Willamette Memorial Park.
