Vesta Merle Childress of Prineville Oregon passed away on October 23, 2014. She was born July 21, 1929 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Russell and Ernestine (Saey) Jordan. A memorial service will be held at the Prineville Funeral Home Heritage Chapel on Friday, October 31st at 1:00.
Vesta graduated from Redmond Union High in 1947 and later attended college to further her education. Afterwards she began her career working as a book-keeper for Pioneer Memorial Hospital, Western Bank, KRCO radio, Les Schwab, Ochoco Irrigation District, and Oregon Stationary until her retirement in 1985.
Some of her many hobbies included reading, crafting, and church activities. She was a deaconess at the First Baptist Church where she also loved to play the piano as a self-taught and very talented pianist. She also played for several years with the Grady Sisters Church Trio.
In 1947, she married Robert Toney and was widowed in 1958. She raised 3 boys Robert, Mark and Merlin. She was blessed in 1984 to find love a second time and married Donald Childress where her family grew by adding two daughters Karen and Nan.
She is survived by her husband Donald; her sons Michael Toney and his wife Debi, Mark Paul and his wife Kathy, Merlin James and his wife Okcha; Daughters through her marriage to Don, Karen Sue and her husband Jack and Nan Louise and her husband Joseph. She is also survived by one Brother Russell M. Jordan and his wife Marlene; 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, 3 Nieces and nephews, and 12 grandnieces and grandnephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents Russell and Ernestine Jordan and her first husband Robert Toney.
