Vi (Copley) Johnson, 79, of Alexandria, went to her Heavenly home on March 7, 2017 after a long illness. Vi was one of nine children, born a twin in a small coal camp in Slagle, West Virginia on July 5, 1937 to Golden and Ethel (Noe) Copley.
As a young girl of 13, while singing Southern Gospel music in a small Baptist church, she met the love of her life, Frank Johnson. Frank and Vi were married when she was just 16 years old on December 25, 1953 in West Logan, WV.
After they were married, Frank brought his bride to Johnstown, OH to start their life and family together with his parents Tom and Ora and sister Lana on the Johnson family farm now called Nichols Lane.
Vi worked at Western Electric for several years and was a Volunteer Paramedic for 22 years with the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Dept., the town in which they have made their home for the past 60+ years. Vi was a Girl Scout leader and was also known as "Grandma" to so very many children far and wide that passed thru her doors and into her life. Vi loved hard with her whole heart and received equal in return.
Frank and Vi were avid Karaoke entertainers for over 15 years and known as the Rum Creek Duo. They visited local nursing homes and various venues all over spreading their love for singing, music and entertainment.
Vi leaves this world joining her first born son, Frank Johnson, Jr. who preceded her in death one year ago, her parents and six of her siblings.
Leaving behind her loving husband of 63 years Frank, Alexandria; two daughters, Barbara (Richard) Shewak of Johnstown and Tammi Johnson (James Chapin) of Johnstown; daughter-in-law, Linda Johnson; six grandchildren, Deborah (Jason) Braun, Sean Lopez, Andrew Shewak, Tarin (Clint) Norris, Hanna Garner and Blake Cottrell (Bri); six great -grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Ava, Vinny, Rocco and Remington; brother, Leonard (Peggy) Copley of Florida and sister, Sue (Bert) Browning Gallapolis and numerous special nieces, nephews, in-laws and so very many lifelong friends and neighbors who have become her adopted children and family.
Vi will be missed deeply by her family and so many dear friends that her life has touched. A memorial visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at CROUSE-KAUBER-FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, OH 43031. Memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dan McLaughlin and Pastor Anthony Payton officiating.
