Virgie Mae January, 80, of Port Lavaca passed away March 29, 2017. She was born March 8, 1937 in McGregor, TX to the late Hardy and Olga Weidemann Bartels. Virgie worked at the Port Lavaca Wave and was known for her "Cooking with Virgie" article, was active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles and VFW Women's Auxiliary. She loved to bake cookies, make school party favors for her grandchildren and was known for her love to dance and would dance anytime she had the opportunity.
She is survived by her children, Ardith January and husband, Buster Drexler of Victoria, Dale January and wife, Sylvia of Port Lavaca, Melissa Sterling and husband, Joe of Goliad and Roy January and wife, Barbara of Port Lavaca; sister, Deaner Williams of Waco; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Max January; parents; sisters, Helen Davis, Ruby Birchum, Marie Bartels and brothers, Clarence Bartels and Clifford Bartels.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 6 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be Monday, April 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. in High Valley Cemetery in Bend, TX.
Pallbearers are Jason January, Bobby Pena, Steven Morris, Lucas Morris, Justin Machicek and Cory Crain.
Honorary Pallbearers are her great-grandsons.
