Virginia Evelyn Christian Hayes, Age 73, a native of Kinder and resident of Fenton was entrusted to God's loving care on Saturday, February 6, 2016 in Welsh. Virginia was the daughter of Joseph T. and Bernadine Christian. She was born in Lake Charles on November 13, 1942 and raised on the Christian Dairy Farm in Kinder, LA. She was a talented, bright, and beautiful young woman. Virginia was a 1960 graduate of Kinder High School, the salutatorian of her class, a cheerleader, FFA Sweetheart, Miss Kinder, Kinder's Junior Miss, and 1960 Louisiana's Junior Miss competing at the national pageant in Mobile, Alabama. Virginia was multi-talented having played several instruments; piano, glockenspiel, auto harp, banjo, drums and ukulele.
She attended LSU and McNeese State University and then married Irving V. Hayes, Jr. on August 3, 1962. During Irving's military career, they resided in Fort Lee, Virginia and Furth (near Nurnberg) , Germany for two years after which they moved to the Fenton/Welsh, LA area. Virginia was a homemaker and Irving a rice farmer. Together they raised two sons, Richard C. and Patrick D. Hayes.
In her early thirties, Mrs. Hayes developed a severely debilitating illness which affected her the rest of her life. However, through it all she loved with all of her heart, her family and God and took joy in her family, friends, music, and art.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, Cowbells, and the First United Methodist Church of Welsh, LA. Virginia enjoyed singing in the church choir and was a relief pianist. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames and Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Richard C. Hayes and wife Vickie of Jennings and Patrick D. Hayes and wife Kathy of Kinder; six grandchildren, Wesley, Tyler, and Brady Hayes of Kinder, Logan Hayes of Lake Charles; Emily Hayes of Jennings and Ethan Crader of Jennings; great-grandchildren, Gabe and Ellie Crader; sister, Dr. Sybil Heise and husband Dr. Don Heise of Guymon, Oklahoma.
