Funeral Services for Mrs. Virginia (Jen) Howell Salter, age 68, will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Dry Creek Baptist Church with burial to follow in Spann United Methodist Church Cemetery, Ward, SC. Mrs. Salter passed away Monday, August 5, 2013. She was a daughter of the late W. O. and Mae Underwood Howell and a native of Swainsboro, Georgia. Jen was retired from 30 years of civil service as a clerk for the Department of Defense at Fort Gordon, Ga. She was a faithful member of Dry Creek Baptist Church where she served as President and Secretary of the Women On Missions (WMU). She also served as past President and board member of SC Rural Letter Carriers Assoc. Auxiliary and as Vice President of the Green Thumb Garden Club. Jen fought a long battle with gastric cancer. Throughout her illness, she never lost faith and was always positive and an inspiration to others. Survivors include her husband: Carroll (Sport) Salter; sister-in-law: Ann McCarty and brother-in-law, Sim (Yank) McCarty of N. Augusta; 2 nieces; 2 great-nieces; 4 great nephews; and many cousins. Memorials can be made to: Dry Creek Baptist Church, 472 Hallman Rd., Ward, SC 29166; Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648; Hospice Care of Tri County, 13795 C. R.
