Virginia Melara
February 16, 1930- September 20, 2010

Virginia Melara "NANA" was born Feb 16 1930 to Mary Melvina Wright and Edwin Lyman Keen in Topeka Kansas. Virginia passed away in her home On September 20 with her husband of 43 years and her son, Michael, by her side. She was preceded in death by her sisters Delores Campilo and Josephine Martinez and her brother William Keen. She was survived by her sisters Mary Thompson, Julia (Flo) Pini, Jeanine Kim and all twelve of her children: Mark Bluthardt, Marsha Becker, Dan Bluthardt, Amy Tobiness, Mitch Bluthardt, Phillip Bluthardt, Michael Bluthardt, Thomas Doyle, Melissa Then, Jaime Doyle, Chris Doyle and Stacey Young. Virginia met and married the love of her life, Tito Melara, in San Francisco in 1966 and moved to Eureka in 1971 where she raised her children and a good number of her over 53 grandchildren and great grand children. Virginia's heart was as big as her family and she loved the Lord. His words were always on her lips and in her heart. Her ministry was the way she lived her life. Her church was her kitchen. There were always cookies in a jar, cakes on the counter, and handmade tortillas any time; day or night. Everyone was always welcome, and there was enough food and love for all who came. As the matriarch of a giant family Virginia "Nana" left behind a legacy of unconditional love and acceptance. She will be missed by all the lives she has touched. Services will be held Saturday September 25th at 11 a.m. at First Calvary church in Fields Landing. All are welcome to join our family in celebrating her life. Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Mortuary, Eureka, CA 707-442-3751, www.piercemortuarychapels.com.
