Virginia Young Slicer was truly a woman of God, a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Virginia was born in Rosa, VA on December 28, 1925, grew up in a Christian family, and was active in the church. She came to the Hampton Roads area with her family, graduated from business college in Newport News, went to work for Noland Company, worked for Garland Lively with the Hampton School System, and later was the preschool director for Mary Atkins Christian Day School. Virginia also taught piano lessons for many years. She loved music, gardening with her flowers, was an avid reader, and a great cook.

Virginia was the pianist for the Copeland Park Methodist Church, and after marrying her husband, John Burdette Slicer, Jr., became the pianist at his church, Copeland Park Presbyterian. Later she was very active in the ministry at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, where her husband served for over 40 years. She was the choir director, pianist/organist and music director as well as teaching Sunday School, Bible School and active in the Ladies Circle, as well as other areas with the church. She and her husband were married for 45 years.

Virginia was preceded in rest by her husband, Rev. John Burdette Slicer, Jr.; her parents, Effie and John Nathaniel Young, Sr.; her brothers, John N. Young, Jr., James R. Young and William B. Young. Virginia's brothers were all older than her, and her youngest brother, William, passed away three days before her.

She is survived by her son, John B. Slicer, III and wife, Brenda of Seaford; daughter, Emily Slicer-Smith and husband, Ron of Yorktown; grandson, Nathaniel S. Hussell and wife, Rachel of Fairfax; sisters-in-law, Mary Margaret Slicer of Roanoke and Betty Lee Young of Harrisonburg; several nieces and nephews, three step-grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Amy Seawell and Christopher Reavis; and several step great-grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N Armistead Ave,. Hampton, which will be officiated by Dr. Michael T. Condrey.

Memorials may be made to Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, the American Heart Association, or the Heritage Humane Society.
