Vivian T. Sprauve departed this earth peacefully on Tuesday 26th December 2017 at Christus Sister Mary Hospice Center in San Antonio, TX. She was born on February 8, 1928 on the beautiful island of Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI). She graced us with her presence for 89 years and 10 months. She was a loving, hardworking and caring person. At an early age, she had to care for her siblings, and developed a passion for cooking which she made her career. As a young lady, she travelled to the neighboring island of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands (VI) and worked as a cook until she retired. She also maintained her hobbies of sewing and gardening. She could sit and make a dress to wear to church or any occasion in less than two hours. She even made two of her daughters' wedding dresses. As she loved to dress, she would always ensure that she was well coordinated, and everything had to fit just right. She had a green thumb. Anything she touched would grow - flowers, herbs, fruit trees - anything. She loved the feel of the earth between her fingers.
Vivian was the proud mother of ten children with one deceased daughter. She was always extremely supportive of them and encouraged their educational aspirations and business endeavors. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed having them around her. Vie, as she was affectionately called by her siblings, and Auntie Vie by her nieces and nephews, was a God-fearing person who liked to attend church worship regularly. She took part in many church organizations and liked to sing God's praises collectively or individually. She could easily change her voice from soprano to alto. She loved having her children and grandchildren accompany her to church and church functions.
Vivian (Mom, mommy, mammy, the Queen) loved to share stories of her youth and the people and things she encountered in her life She was as sturdy as an oak not only in her children's lives but in the lives of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and all the other persons who gravitated to her home.
Later in life, Vivian was challenged by diabetes, breast cancer and circulatory issues which she fought valiantly. In the end, her heavenly Father called her home peacefully. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. May her soul Rest in Peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations to assist in repairs to Vivian's house on St. Thomas, VI which suffered damages due to Hurricanes Irma and Maria, checks can be made payable to Annette Percival (her daughter) and on the memo line please indicate "Vivian Sprauve Home Repairs".
