Wallace Reese Whitley, 61, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2017 in Abilene, TX. Reese was born April 23, 1955 in Rocky Mount, NC to Wallie M. and Beulah F. Whitley. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Walter Whitley. He is survived by a daughter, Amanda Whitley and a granddaughter, Cherokee Whitley both of Wichita Falls, TX; a step-daughter, Jasey Ledesma and a step-granddaughter, Ember Ledesma both of Hamlin, TX; two sisters, Marie Goodson of Middlesex, NC and Mary Thorpe and husband, Paul of Nashville, NC; a brother, Ruffin Whitley of Rocky Mount, NC; seven nieces; three nephews; and numerous other cousins and friends.
Reese graduated from Southern Nash High School in 1973 and continued to work on the family farm and did some landscaping. He joined the U.S. Air Force on February 4, 1976 and retired from the service on February 28, 1994. Reese joined the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a correctional officer in September of 1994 and retired from the French Robertson Unit on April 30, 2010. His other passions were darts, fishing, hunting, and cooking.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held from 3:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 257 Burger St., Abilene, TX. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Reese's name to the Disabled American Veterans.
