Walter D. Minton, 92, of Shiloh, Illinois, born February 28, 1925, in East St. Louis, Illinois, passed away, Friday, October 13, 2017, at home, surrounded by family.

Walter proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a chief clerk to the superintendent and retired from Southern Railroad after 42 years. He was a member of the O'Fallon First Baptist Church. He first began dedicating time to charities and groups at an early age, when he became an Eagle Scout. He then became very involved with Masonic Gothic Lodge 852, the Scottish Rite, and Ainad Shriners; including the Drum and Bugle Corps and Legion of Honor. He was also Past Commander of the VFW Post 805, O'Fallon, IL and a member of the American Legion Post 137 in O'Fallon. He prided himself on working hard, providing and prioritizing his family; he understood what it meant to be a "family man". He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother and friend, who will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his by his parents, Porter T. and Mary P., nee Otto, Minton; and his two brothers, Bruce and Thomas Minton.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 69 years, Dorothy Minton, nee Williams, of Shiloh, Illinois; his children, Donald W. (Ethel) Minton, of Lebanon, Illinois, Thomas (Elizabeth) Minton, of Swansea, Illinois, and Georgia Criswell, of Shiloh, Illinois; grandchildren, Donald T. (Jennifer) Minton, Nicole (Bobby) Sutton, Hollie Minton, Gregory Minton, Shelley (Matt) Wunderlich, Tiffany (Gene) Patton, and Angela (Scott) Locke; great grandchildren, Breanna, Haley, Brendan (Cheyenne), Nick, Britney, Seth, Sierra, Morgan, Youseff, Luke, Walter, Morgan, Thomas, Matthew, Dylan, Landon, Logan, Emma, and Jayden; a brother, Kenneth (Richie) Minton, of Alpine, California; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2017 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Illinois. The Shriners and Masonic bodies will perform their final rites at 6 p.m.

Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Munton officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
