Walter (Steve) Beard

Walter Steve Beard, 59, of Grand Prairie Texas, joined his precious father in Heaven on December 4th, 2017. He was born on February 28th, 1958 in Fort Worth, Texas to Walter and Betty Jo Beard.

Over the years Steve resided at the Denton State School and group homes in Denton, Texas

He was a member of Baptist Temple in Grand Prairie, Texas.

He enjoyed listening to County western and gospel music and never passed up a chance to dance! He loved to eat at Whataburger or Taco Bell and never missed an episode of Walker Texas Ranger or the local wrestling matches. He loved to bowl but especially loved spending special occasions and the holidays with his family and all his friends from church where after services he was notorious for inviting someone home for lunch without mom and dad knowing about it!

In his earlier years, Steve was also an active participant in Special Olympics and won several medals for track and field events. He worked at the Kenmar workshop in Denton, but would have been a perfect greeter for Walmart because every stranger he met became a new lifelong friend.

God sent a special angel to teach us so many things. Unconditional love, compassion, and caring were only a few of the lessons he taught us. He was truly a special person in every sense of the word and he will be greatly missed by everyone.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Beard. He is survived by his mother, Betty Jo Beard, Sisters Linda Johnson and husband Richard of Grand Prairie, and Janis Standridge and husband Stan of Arlington. He lovingly leaves behind his nieces, Angela and husband Jason of Arlington, Brandy Wood of Corsicana and Haley Ligon of Fort Worth. Great nieces, Hollie Wood of Corsicana, Kylie Ingram and great nephew John Ingram of Arlington.

Visitation will be held at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home, Grand Prairie at 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday the 6th of December.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at the Baptist Temple in Grand Prairie on Thursday, December 7th at 10:00 am.

A special thank you to Steve's wonderful caregivers at Kenmar in Denton, Texas, Heritage at Turner Park in Grand Prairie and Carepath Hospice who cared for Steve throughout the years and for the last several months. We will be forever grateful for your loving and unending care for him.

Our hearts are heavy but full with the wonderful memories our sweet Steve brought to our lives. He will live on in the wonderful stories everyone that he has met shares with us. Thank you for being a part of his life. He loved you all!

Memorials may be made to either The Baptist Temple or Special Olympics at
