CDR Walter Vincent Hogan, USN, Ret., 87, passed away April 1, 2017.

CDR Hogan was born in White Plains, NY. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and received degrees from Naval Postgraduate School and George Washington University.

CDR Hogan was a Naval Aviator in the E-2C Hawkeye, serving as Commanding Officer of Airborne Early Warning Squadron 122 (VAW-122), with shipboard deployments from Europe to the Pacific, including service on the USS Baltimore, USS Tarawa and USS Independence. Duty stations ranged from Monterey, CA, to College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. After 24 years CDR Hogan retired from the Navy and spent 15 years with Newport News Shipbuilding.
CDR Hogan was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, USNA 1953 Alumni Assoc., VA Beach Master Gardeners, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. A generous family man, Walt was quick with a laugh, a song and a warm smile.

Surviving is his loving wife of 57 years, Carole Hogan; 2 daughters, Sharon Hogan, Colleen Wampler and husband Christopher; son, Walter Hogan III and wife Jennifer; two sisters, Patsy Sposato and Marguerite Turcot; and five loving grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Mon., April 10, 11:00 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church with a reception to follow. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
