WANDA JEAN HILL YOKUM, age 85 years, a resident of Beverly, WV departed this life early Tuesday evening, March 13, 2012 at the Davis Memorial Hospital with her family at her side.
She was born Saturday, July 31, 1926 at Elkins, WV a daughter of the late Oliver L. Hill and Lelia Wright Hill Simpson. On December 23, 1945 at the First Baptist Church at Elkins, WV she was married to Woodrow H. Yokum, who survives. They had celebrated sixty-six years of marriage. Also surviving are one daughter, Sherri L. Elliott and husband Harry, Beverly; a very special niece, Linda L. Peterson, Beverly; two grandchildren, Jeffery Riggleman and wife Katrina, Fredericksburg, VA; Amy Zervos and husband Nick, Morgantown; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Riggleman; Logothetis; Saige; Teophilos; and Ariah Zervos and three nieces, Bette Bates; and Gwen Bumgardner, Knoxville, TN; April Curry and husband Glenn, Hebron, KY; and one nephew, Terry Yokum and wife Jenny, OR.
Preceding her in death are two sisters, Dorothy Sheets; and infant Elizabeth Hill and her step-father Boyd Simpson.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School and along with her husband owned and operated the Beverly Store for forty-five years. She was previously very active in the Beverly Community as a member of the Beverly Woman's Club, and the Beverly Fireman's Auxiliary. She was a member of the Randolph Chapter # 74, Order of the Eastern Star, was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi and a member of the Beverly Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Sunday from 4 to 7 PM. At the request of Mrs. Yokum the casket will remain closed. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Monday, March 19, 2012 at 11 AM. The Rev. Joanne Glaser will officiate and interment will follow at the Earle Cemetery at Beverly, WV.
