Born at home outside Rankin Texas in rural Ellis County to Golman and Willie Mae Kelsey on April 27th 1926, Wanda Lee Hobson passed from this life on December 10, 2017 in Bryan Texas with her loving husband by her side. In her youth she was Wanda Lee, later she was Wanda, and for the last 50+ years she has been Mimi to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and almost everyone else.
Raised in farming and ranching country during the Great Depression, Wanda was taught to be thrifty and make things for herself that could not be afforded. As a result, she was a wonderful seamstress, creating beautiful quilts, afghans, and lace all completely by hand. She also was an exceptional cook, making the most delicious meals, complete with cakes, pies and desserts. Within her family she is probably best known for her chicken and dumplings, which she delivered anytime someone was ill, as well as her signature Jalapeno jelly.
Wanda retired as a bookkeeper of 30 years for Nita's Flowers in Bryan Texas, during which time she was an avid member of the Garden Club, enjoyed oil painting, and raising her family. Also very important to Wanda was being active with her church family at the A&M Church of Christ where she was a member for nearly sixty years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Golman and Willie Mae Kelsey, a brother Forrest Kelsey, sister and brother in law, Willie Dean and Noel Worthy, a daughter, Denice Fay Ince, a son-in-law, Gailord White, and two husbands, Newell L. Ince and Dr. G.A. Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gene Hobson. A sister Anna Lou Stovall and husband Troy , sister-in-law Patricia Kelsey, daughters Sandy White and Donna Ince. Stepsons, Ed Hobson and wife Lillian, Jon Hobson and wife Wendy, and stepdaughter Kathy Myatt and husband Randy. Grandchildren Bill White and wife Ginger, Mike White and wife Trisha, Michelle Vessells, Jesse Vessells, Austin Hobson and Jenni Hobson. Survivors also include 7 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild expected in February as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday December 13th from 5-7 pm at Memorial Funeral Home in Bryan Texas. Graveside services will be Thursday December 14th at 11:00 am at San Saba City Cemetery in San Saba, Texas.
