Wanda Thompson, age 92, passed away January 11, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.

Born on June 7, 1925 in Dover, Arkansas to Herman and Nora Price, Wanda grew up with five siblings - Beatrice, MT, Durah, William and Bobby - and countless aunts, uncles and cousins. Because money was scarce and entertainment hard to come by, Wanda began performing with her family and friends for what she called 'captive audiences' around the countryside, discovering in the process that she had a true gift for singing the blues and 'torch songs' that were popular during the dark days of World War II.

When the war was over, Wanda moved to San Francisco, California and met the love of her life, fellow musician and Air Force sergeant Tommy Thompson. They married in 1948 and had their only child, Rosetta Diane, in 1950. Wanda's life was her husband and child, and she took care of them joyfully, following Tommy on every tour of duty throughout his 26-year career and giving up performing professionally when her daughter was born. She often said that her life had been complete, blessed and filled with love. When she lost her soul mate in 1985, she dedicated herself to seeing to her family, focusing on her granddaughter, then her two great-grandchildren, spending precious hours with them as she 'made memories.'

Wanda Thompson was surrounded by her loving family in her final days, and the memories she created during all those years sustain them now. She is survived by her daughter, Rosetta Hoessli and her husband, Kevin, her granddaughter, Michele Hoessli, her great-grandson Kevin Thomas Hoessli, and her great-granddaughter Briana.

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with the Funeral Service to follow at 3:00 p.m. The burial will continue at Sunset Memorial Park.
