Ward Hinegardner Shipp, 93, a lifelong resident of Rockingham County, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017.

He was born in Rockingham County on October 11, 1923 and was the son of the late Herman A. Shipp, Sr. and Effie Mae Hinegardner Shipp.

Ward was an active member in Brethren Services during WWII and was a member of the Melrose Church of The Brethren. He was owner of Shipp Lawnmower Service, a rural letter carrier with the US Postal Service and was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rosalee J. Southerly Shipp, on March 8, 2008.

He is survived by a son, Roger Shipp of Timberville; a daughter, Juanita Zban and husband, Michael; a grandson, Anthony Zban all of Penn Laird; a niece, who was raised as a daughter, Lenora Fowler of Harrisonburg; and a brother, Herman A. Shipp, Jr. of Hagerstown, MD.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Frances Pickett, Elizabeth Mitchell, Annabelle Smith, and Leona O'Roark; and one brother, W. Theodore Shipp.

The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 pm, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Chapel of the funeral home, with Rev. Guy Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Melrose Church of the Brethren, P. O. Box 367, Grottoes, VA 24441 or Massanutten Regional Library, for the funding of large print and audio books, 174 S. Main St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
