William Amos Hall, 87, of Front Royal passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at his home.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home with Reverend James Simmons and Reverend William Erbach officiating. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park with military honors.
Mr. Hall was born May 22, 1930 in Limeton, the son of the late Eston Neese and Lelia Alma Jones Hall. He was the last member of his family to be born and in death. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Eunice Geneva Hall, Edna Ernestine Downs, Alma Elizabeth Rudacille, and Leslie Katherine Harris; and his brothers, Eugene Hall, Robert Wesley Hall, and Cecil Ordway Hall. He was first married to Opal Oates, July 25, 1952 who predeceased him July 3, 1985. He served in the U. S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a real estate salesman with Howard Duncan and Vaught and Bennett. He retired from the United States Postal System in 1990. He was a member of ACCA Shrine Center Valley of Virginia, Unity Masonic Lodge #145, where he was Master of the Lodge in 1979 and was awarded the Daniel Carter Beard Award, Hiram Royal Arch #46 where he was High Priest, Blue Ridge Shrine Club where he was past president and chief of the Arson Squad and Mini Haulers, member of I. O. O. F., Izaak Walton League, Browntown Chapter, Boy Scouts of America Shenandoah Area Council Shenrapawa District, Giles B. Cook Post 53 of the American Legion, life member of Colonel Samuel R. Millar Veterans of Foreign War Post 1860, and Marlow Heights Baptist Church where he was a deacon, usher, and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Hall; his step-son; four stepgrandchildren; former sisters-in-law, Margel Hawkins, Ida Mae Pugh, and Elaine Oates; sister-in-law, June Newcomb (Douglas); and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Unity Lodge #146 will conduct Masonic services at 7 p.m. during the visitation.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Purcell, Emerson Rudacille, Robert Hall, Robert Sealock, Jason Menefee, Manuel Tederick, Tony Crim and Larry Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Unity Lodge #146, members of Hiram Royal Arch #45, members of ACCA Shrine Center, members of Blue Ridge Shrine, members of Mountain Falls Hunt Club, members of Massie Street Poker Club, members of retired postal employees, members of IOOF and Roland Pugh.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to Shriners International, Alzheimer's Association, Parkenson's Association, Blue Ridge Hospice, Colonel S. R. Millar VFW Post 1860, or Marlow Heights Baptist Church.
