William (Bill) L. Butler, 76, of Bloomfield, husband of Brenda Byrd-Butler, died unexpectedly on Wednesday January 18, 2017.

Mr. Butler was the son of the late Ira Butler and Jessie Rivers-Hall. Born in Montrose, Georgia on January 28, 1940, he was educated in Waterbury and attended Slocum Elementary School and Wilby High School. Bill attended Grace Baptist Church. He loved sports and was an avid football, baseball and tennis player. Bill retired from Ensign Bickford and in his retirement he enjoyed watching NY Yankee baseball, UCONN Women and Men Basketball, and playing pinochle with his family. In dealing with his illness, Bill spent the later years of his life showing others what strength, determination and perseverance means.

Bill is survived by his wife Brenda Byrd-Butler, whom was the love of his life for 56 years, two daughters, Carla "Tami" Butler of CT and Tracey Butler of NY, his grandson Traylon Jonathan Butler-Neal of CT and a host of in laws, cousins and friends.

He was pre-deceased by James Butler Sr., Marie (Butler) Brooks, James Butler Jr., Ola Mae (Butler) Hunter, Step- Mother Sally Butler and his grandson Cameron Butler.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Butler will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Grace Baptist Church, 65 Kingsbury Street, Waterbury. Burial will be at New Pine Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Grace Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 65 Kingsbury Street, Waterbury, CT 06702.

The family of Mr. William Butler has chosen the Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, who is handling the funeral arrangements.
