William Paul Nekich (April 2, 1935-May 3, 2021)
William "Bill" Nekich, of Avon, OH passed away at 11:55am on Monday, May 3, 2021. He was born in Cleveland (Collinwood), Ohio to Robert and Julia (Yovich) Nekich.
Bill graduated from Collinwood High School in 1954 and continued his education at Ohio University and Cleveland State University (Fenn Engineering) majoring in Mechanical Engineering (ME). He was active in sports his entire life, enjoying baseball, volleyball, skiing and fishing. Bill coached youth baseball teams for his children. He especially liked his Canadian fishing trips with brother-in-law, friends, son and nephew. Bill was an avid reader and enjoyed researching politics, engineering, and astronomy.
After high school, Bill became a Great Lakes Coast Guard member and worked on the Great Lakes Ore Boats. He then worked 40 years as a Mechanical Engineer for several local and international companies - Production Machinery Corp USA, SMS Demag Corp (German), and Fata Corp (Italian). During these years, he traveled throughout the world - (Europe, Asia, South America, etc.) on international projects as a Contract/Project/Sales and Engineer Manager.
During his career Bill instigated a number of engineering innovations for metal processing systems and machinery. He was also an active member of several engineering societies (ASME, SAE, AISE, AISI and IME). Bill loved his career and enjoyed every aspect of it.
Bill is survived by his wife, Marilyn Lahiff-Nekich; daughters Sandra J. (Steve) Wendell, Laura A. (Doug) Radebaugh; son Jeffrey R. (Jodi) Nekich; Michele Miller and Chuck (Janin) Miller; grandchildren Meghan, Stephen, Greg (Maggie), Brian, Mark, Warren, Logan, Colton and Dawson; sister Mildred Major; and nieces.
Preceded in death by parents; brother Robert Jr.; nephew Robbie; and sister Anna.
