William Chester Van Gilder, "Bill" to those who loved him, passed away peacefully December 19, 2017 at the age of 82. Bill was born on October 3, 1935 in Avery, Oklahoma. Bill was the son of Chet and Fern Van Gilder, and was one of six children. Bill owned Van Gilder Plastering in Lubbock, Texas for 35 years. He married Alice Wortman, and they were married for 36 years. Together they raised two sons, Larry and Paul, before her passing.

He married Sally (Annabelle) Lindeman Phillips Van Gilder in 1988 and was married for 30 years. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, ALON, and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. He loved Ballroom dancing, spending time with family and friends and traveling with Sally in their RV. They loved to travel to see family and friends in Oklahoma, taking nieces, nephews and grandkids on camping trips, and seeing sites. They were always hosting holiday gathers for family and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by Alice Van Gilder and Sally Van Gilder.

He is survived by his sons, Larry Van Gilder (his wife Judy), Paul Van Gilder, (his wife Cathy), Greg Phillips (and his wife Ramona), daughter-in-law Joyce Phillips, 8 grandkids and 13 great grandkids. Bill will be missed by many.

The family wants to express their thanks to the staff at the Covenant Specialty Hospital, the family of Wolfforth United Methodist Church and all the friends who have surrounded them during this time. Bill will be missed but was greeted in death by two lovely women who he adored, and Jesus who changed his life.
