STATESVILLE- Johnny Stiles, 92, passed peacefully on to his heavenly resting place on Sunday, Oct. 15th, 2017 at Gordon Hospice House.

Johnny was born on June 11, 1925 to Harvey and Myrtle stiles in Murphy, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Doris Stepp and his sister, Sue Lovingood. He is survived by one sister, Margaret Johnson; sons, Bill (Jane), Bob, Jerry and Jason; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Johnny was a former Scoutmaster of Troop 348 that is sponsored by Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

In 1977 He became the Gemstone District Scout Division Chairman and continued for two years to be the Leadership Development Chairman.

In 1976 he served as the course Director for the Piedmont Council Wood Badge Course, a course he had achieved in 1972. He joined the order of the Arrow and received his Brotherhood in 1973.

While at Wesley Memorial he taught Sunday school for many years, served as a president of the class, served on the administrative board, and as a family coordinator.

Johnny was a thirty second degree Mason, member of the Oasis Shrine Club, advisor for the Demolay president of the American Business Club, and past Lieutenant Director of the Associated Equipment Dealers of America. He was an executive vice president and sales manager for Interstates Equipment Company.

Johnny served in the US Army in Italy during WWII with the 351st Battalion, 88th Infantry. He was awarded a Bronze Star, Presidential Citation, Good Conduct Medal, World War Ii Victory, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign and Combat Infantryman Badge.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 2pm. The family will receive friends after
the service. Burial will be privately in Oakwood Cemetery.
