Reverend William H. Jewett, 86, of Brielle, died Monday, December 26, 2016 in Philadelphia, PA. Born in Schenectady, NY, he lived in Kingston, NY and Spring Valley, NY, before moving to Brielle in 1969.

While at Draper High School ('47) in Schenectady, NY, Mr. Jewett joined the Order of DeMolay, the Naval Reserve and was early admission at Union College in Schenectady for Civil Engineering. He then earned his BA in Business Administration from Central College in Pella, IA, his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and his Masters of Divinity from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in New Brunswick, NJ. He was a member of the Reformed Church in America (RCA). Reverend Jewett served as Pastor of the Brick Church in Monsey, NY for 10 years before moving to Brielle, NJ and serving as Pastor of the Church in Brielle from 1969 to 1995. During his tenure in Brielle he established a very successful preschool and developed a student exchange program between the Dutch Reformed churches in Brielle, NJ and Brielle, The Netherlands.

Reverend Jewett was appointed as the Senate Chaplain for four years during the Byrne administration; he was on the Board of Directors of the very successful Allaire Community Bank; he became a third degree Mason while in Kingston NY, and was a long-time member of Rotary International, most recently with the Point Pleasant Beach Club.

Reverend Jewett was pre-deceased by his wife Barbara and their son Norman, and by his brother LeRoy. He is survived by his son, William of Scranton, PA; his daughters, Lorraine of Philadelphia, PA, and Deborah Soderland of Downingtown, PA; his sister, Ann Paine of Schenectady, NY; and his grandchildren, Hayley, Ian and Eric.

Burial will take place in Schenectady, NY. A Memorial Service will be held in the spring at The Church in Brielle, in Brielle, NJ. The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan, NJ is in charge of his arrangements.
