William Jefferson Wonderley, 86 of 701 Humbert Road, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, October 8, 2014.

Born Feb. 20, 1928 near Mt. Meridian, VA, he was a son of William Bryan Wonderley and Ellen Josephine (Saufley).

Mr. Wonderley grew up on a large farm where he developed a love for working the land. After high school he enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed in Guam serving his country during the Korean War.

Being honorably discharged, he soon met with his bride to be Madeline Marie Clatterbaugh. They married September 6, 1952 and lived in Arlington, VA where Mr. Wonderley was employed by the Pentagon.

Following his heart's desire to farm and raise a family, he and his wife returned to his childhood home area where they purchased a farm near New Hope, VA. He farmed for 30 years raising crops, beef cattle and hogs.

Upon retirement he bought and sold equipment, traveled and fished. One of his greatest joys was to share photos of the fish he had caught and their 3 month camping trip to Alaska. He also enjoyed wood crafts, many of which are now cherished by his grandchildren.

Mr. Wonderley was a long time member of Mount Horeb Presbyterian Church and a current member of Central Baptist church in Waynesboro, VA. Mr. Wonderley was saved by the grace of God, baptized by immersion and secure in the knowledge of his heavenly home.

Mr. Wonderley is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ada Frances Greene, brothers, Ralph Talmage Wonderley, Andrew Lee Wonderley and grandson Jacob Hunter Wonderley.
