William L. Turner of Columbia, SC, died January 9, 2018 in Columbia, SC. His spirit was released from his worn-out shell of a body and has gone to meet his maker.
He is survived by his sons; Mike and Scott, their wives Lara and Rebecca, and grandchildren Shea, Ryan, Carson, Branham, and Hadley. He is also survived by his best friend and ex-wife Shirley.
He was born in Graniteville, SC on March 10, 1944 to Vera Davis Turner and James William Turner.
He graduated from Aiken High School in 1962. Bill went on to attend and graduate from Georgia Tech in March 1970 (Class of 1969) with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree. He joined Bethlehem Steel in April 1970. He had a remarkable career in Sales and Marketing for 33 years. After Bethlehem, Bill built homes in Benton, AR and sold real estate in Columbia, SC. All of his remarkable life, he drank too much, barbequed too much, and hated UGA too much.
There will be no viewing since his family refused to honor his request to have him standing in the corner of the room with a glass of Jack Daniels in his hand.
Instead of flowers, William would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness; or make a donation to Northeast Presbyterian Church or the Georgia Tech Foundation.
A memorial service will be held in William's honor on January 15, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home Northeast Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
