William “Tip” Tipping, 86, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on September 21, 2017. William Malcolm Tipping was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on March 31, 1931. He graduated from Carleton College in 1954, and became an advertising account executive at Campbell Mithun in Minneapolis and Chicago and at Lennen and Newell in New York. He then became the managing director and partner of Chicago-based Heidrick and Struggles Executive Search. He later served as the Chief Executive Officer of the American Cancer Society, where he oversaw the transition of the American Cancer Society headquarters from New York to Atlanta.

Mr. Tipping was an active member of his community and always willing to share his time for the greater good. His most cherished charitable causes included the American Cancer Society, Carleton College, Families First of Atlanta and the Georgia Conservancy. He was a trustee of Carleton College, from which he received the distinguished service award.

Mr. Tipping had a lifelong passion for music, golf and travel. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs. He and his wife, Babette, had a second home in Quechee, Vermont, for 30 years, sharing memorable family adventures through all four seasons.

Mr. Tipping was pre-deceased by his first wife, Lois Grife Tipping, and his parents, William and Evelyn Freier Tipping. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Babette Tipping, sons William Tipping (Marla), Robert Tipping (Mary), daughter Barbara Tipping Fitzpatrick (Tom), step-son Christopher Cumming (Paige), step-daughter Courtney Cumming Blundell (Ken) and his brother Richard Tipping (Maralyn), 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grand-children.
