Willis "Bud" E. Johnston, 89, of Vernon, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Rockville General Hospital. Born February 6, 1925 in Easton, ME, he was a son to the late Chester F. and Grace P. (Buckingham) Johnston. He was a veteran of WWII, serving his country proudly with the U.S. Navy. Bud married Christine Dixon who passed away April 9, 1995. He was a construction worker for most of his life, was a member of the American Legion and was past president of PAC (Polish American Club) in Rockville. He is survived by his sons Earl Johnston and his wife, Bonnie of Vernon and Richard Johnston of Missouri; daughters Sharon Tillotson and Carol Johnston, both of Chiefland, FL, and Terry (John) Coast of Flushing, OH; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including his special granddaughter Tammy Johnston of Vernon; and sisters Marie Stewart of Vernon and Leila Lavoie of Florida. Bud's family would like to extend a special thank you to the many friends at Rose Commons and his care givers at Rockville General Hospital and VNA & Hospice. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, Vernon has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in Bud's name to the Visiting Nurses & Health Services of Connecticut, 8 Keynote Dr., Vernon, CT 06066.
