Rupert, VT-Wilma Croff Batease, 92, of Rupert, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at The Pines at Rutland. Born October 9, 1917 in Pawlet, VT, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Hortensia (Alexander) Croff. Wilma took LPN courses at Bennington Hospital. She had worked for an aircraft company in Connecticut, the Roux Hair Co. and worked for the Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge as an LPN and Wilma also did private duty nursing for many people in the area, including Abraham Lincoln's great grandson, Lincoln Isham of Manchester, VT. Wilma was a member of the Rupert United Methodist Church where she was very active.  In 1996, she was honored with a plaque for her dedication rendered to the Town of Rupert Old Home Day.  She loved flowers and enjoyed family gatherings, especially on Memorial Day. Wilma loved to talk on the telephone and she enjoyed visiting with her neighbors and bringing them flowers when they were ill. Wilma enjoyed traveling to Florida when she was able to.
Wilma is survived by her brother and his wife, Ernest G. and Roberta Croff of Malta, NY and many nieces and nephews and her special feline friend, Precious Baby.
Wilma was predeceased by her husband, Henry Batease who was killed while landing an aircraft during the Korean Conflict; her siblings, Wilfred Croff, Robert Croff, Gerald Croff, Lloyd Croff, Maxine and Raymond Croff; her nieces and nephews, Dale Croff, Marilyn Clark, Robert Croff, Jr., Sharon Croff, Gilbert Croff, Nancy Croff and Betty Sue Croff. She was also pre-deceased by a great niece, Courtney Croff.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Rupert United Methodist Church, corner of Routes 315 & 153 in Rupert with Rev. Mary Beth Hutchinson officiating. Interment will take place in Danby Cemetery in Danby, VT.
Following the funeral services, Wilma's family invites everyone to join them in the fellowship hall at the Congregational Church of Rupert for light refreshments and a time for sharing memories of Wilma.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call Friday from 5-7 pm at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem, NY.
Memorial contributions in memory of Wilma may be made to the Rupert United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 40, West Rupert, VT 05776.
