Winifred Gale Dillon McNichols was born May 8, 1918 to Ed and Lela ( Smith) Dillon near Northbranch, Kansas and died February 16 , 2012 at the Good Samaritan Home, Superior, Nebraska. Winnie was a lifelong resident of the Burr Oak community, attending Northbranch Academy and graduating from Burr Oak High School in 1936.She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was united in marriage to Lowell McNichols October 25, 1947 in Burr Oak. Four children were born to this union. Winnie was a homemaker loving to spend time with her family, friends and neighbors. She enjoyed sewing, doing ceramics and reading. Lowell and Winnie enjoyed traveling and visiting friends made through their interests. Lowell passed away in 1983.Her faith grew as she became a widow. She continued traveling going on several bus tours and visiting family in other states. In 2006 she moved to the Vesty Center in Superior, Nebraska. She loved people, enjoyed activities and doing things for others. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Her church was a central part of her life being especially concerned with missions. She will be remembered for her frequent letter writing, love of reading and her sewing skills, having made many outfits for her daughter s and friends. She began embroidering quilts for her children and grandchildren, completing one for all of them. She spent many hours pursuing this hobby. Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Doyle Dillon, husband Lowell, and sister Wilma Dillon. Surviving her are her children, Douglas and wife Diane of Concordia; Marcia Robertson and husband Dave, Fayetteville, NC; Kathy Chapman and husband Paul, Wichita, KS; Kelly and wife Becky of Burr Oak. Grandchildren, Leigh Robertson and husband Daniel Turner, Charlotte, NC; Maggie Robertson, Greensboro, NC; Hilary McNichols, Durham , NC; Claire Chapman, Wichita, KS; Kelsey McNichols, Concordia, KS; Peter Chapman, Carbondale, CO; Rissa McNichols, Concordia, KS; Callum and Grace McNichols, Burr Oak. Sisters Caryl Abel, Greeley CO; Waneta Brown and husband Quinton, Salina, KS; sisters-in –law Joyce McNichols, Superior, NE and Laura McNichols, Chino Hills, CA, many nieces and nephews, other family and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, 10:00 a.m., February 20, 2012 at the Northbranch Friends Church with Rev. Ken Smith and Rev. Merl Kinser officiating. Interment was at the Northbranch Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Northbranch Friends Church or the Good Samaritan Center in Superior.
