Dr. Wynette Yolanda Johnson passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017. She was born in Marshall, Texas on August 14, 1951, to Lewis and Alice K. Williams. Wynette accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Corpus Christi. She was always a faithful member at every church with which she united. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and danced on the praise team until her health failed. She was currently a member of Life Changer Community Church, Katy, Texas. Dr. Johnson attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School, Solomon M. Coles, and Roy Miller High school from which she graduated in 1969. She later received an AA from Del Mar, a BS from Corpus Christi State University, an MA from Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, and an Ed.D from Texas A&M - Kingsville. She dedicated over 35 years to CCISD, working as a paraprofessional, teacher, administrator, and consultant. She was also an adjunct professor at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.


She became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. in the spring of 1992 and was proud to wear the crimson and cream. In 2004, Dr. Johnson was inducted into the Consortium of Doctors.


Dr. Wynette Johnson was preceded in death by one sister, Darvina Davis. She is survived by her parents, Rev. Lewis Williams, Jr. and Mrs. Alice K. Williams of Corpus Christi, Texas; her ex-husband, George Johnson, of Corpus Christi; one sister, Dr. Alys Williams of Corpus Christi, Texas; two children: Rev. Lewis (NaKisha) Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas and Andrea (Jeffery) Ledet of Cypress, Texas; Godson: Quayshawn Nickleson of Austin, Texas: six grandchildren: Kamryan Johnson, Janiah Ledet, Lewis-William Johnson, Landen Johnson, Janius Ledet and Adrian Alamillo. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and many relatives and friends.


Visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2017, from 5 PM to 9 PM at Memory Gardens. The wake will begin at 7PM. A funeral service will be held at St. John Baptist Church on Saturday, January 6, 2017, at 10:00 AM. Before going on to be with God, Dr. Wynette Johnson requested that all that attend her funeral wear bright colors.
